On a new edition of “The ARN Show”, former wrestling professional Arn Anderson recalled an episode from his wrestling career. In particular, he shared his memories of losing the WCW World TV Title to his competitor, The Renegade, at the significant event of the Great American Bash 1996.
Here are the key takeaways from the podcast:
When discussing about his match at Great American Bash 1996 and losing the World TV Title to The Renegade, Anderson didn’t mince his words. “I knew it was going to be bad,” he admitted. “I had a feeling all day that day. A few days later, that prediction turned out to be accurate. I just wasn’t aware at that time about the kind of intense experience that we were going to expose our fans to.” He referred to the nearly ten-minute long match and added, “He could have defeated me in merely two minutes, that would have been better, I’m certain.”
Speaking about his experience working alongside The Renegade, Anderson was quick to absolve him of any blame. “It wasn’t his fault. He simply lacked experience, he was extremely new in the game. He entered under misunderstood terms, and now he was stuck without the unique personality that set him apart,” Anderson explained. He further analyzed the confused reactions fans might have had when they discovered The Renegade wasn’t the Ultimate Warrior. “When fans found out it wasn’t him and saw who he really was… They don’t appreciate being tricked like that. Once he started fighting as himself, it became a mess, as ‘he’s not the Ultimate Warrior,’ I recall thinking, ‘we might have messed up with this kid.'”
