In the latest episode of “The ARN Show” podcast, Arn Anderson shared his thoughts on a well-known incident from the past involving Goldberg and William Regal in a WCW match. The match became infamous due to misconceptions about Regal’s level of aggression, which Goldberg believed was excessive, while Regal was directed to keep the fight competitive.

Highlights from the podcast episode are as follows:

Discussing his role in the controversial match between Goldberg and William Regal, Anderson mentioned, “I was the one to handle that match. I relayed the instructions I was given. I personally believe that all the flak Regal received for that match over the years is unjust. In my opinion, it was Goldberg’s best-ever match because it was one of the first times he had a truly balanced fight. You cannot simply overpower someone like William Regal for eight or nine minutes, it needs to be a competition.”

Reflecting on the reaction of Eric Bischoff, the then boss, after the match, Anderson said, “Definitely, I didn’t boast about it or blame my boss, in this case, Eric. Beforehand, I had a conversation with Eric following which I told the wrestlers, ‘Guys, give it your all. Make it a competitive match’. I wasn’t aware that Regal faced consequences as severe as losing his job over it.”

Commenting on the repercussions of the match, he observed, “This must have been the first time Goldberg had to truly ‘work’ during a match, instead of his usual tactic of summarily dispatching his opponents. I think wrestling fans appreciate when a wrestler has to work hard for their victory, and that’s what happened in this match. Unfortunately, Regal ended up getting into hot water for it.”
