Aramis And Arez Hope To Honor The Past And Showcase The Present On MLW Fusion: ALPHA

Arez and Aramis are ready to show the world that the future of lucha libre has arrived in Major League Wrestling.
The two high-flying stars faced off in a match that will air on the September 29 episode of MLW Fusion Alpha, which was taped in the 2300 Arena.
In an interview wth Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, both men shared their thoughts on the bout, which has plenty of connections with a show-stealing contest between Rey Mysterio and Psicosis that fans got to see at the ECW Arena, as the 2300 Arena was then known, in 1995. Arez made he clear that he hopes his match with Aramis will successfully follow in the footstep established by these two legends.
“Twenty-six years after Rey Mysterio and Psicosis changed their careers at the ECW Arena, it is time for me and Aramís to have our moment,” Arez said through a translator. “I think this is a good time to carry on their legend.”
Meanwhile, Aramis called Mysterio and Psicosis two of his idols before he emphasized that he’s honored to have this match in the same arena where the two then-ECW stars electrified the crowd.
“They are two great idols that symbolized an era for me,” Aramis said through a translator. “I am honored to have wrestled in their building. And the MLW audience turns this into a night I will never forget.
Aramis then noted that this match against Arez was a fitting contest for his MLW debut, and he expressed his excitement about showcasing his readiness for any and all challenges.
“I think there was no better way to make my MLW debut than facing Arez,” said Aramis through a translator. “We always push ourselves to the limit in each fight, we both want that victory, and we are hungry to show that we are ready for great challenges in MLW.”
To be fair, Konnan, a legendary wrestler who played an important role in bringing lucha libre to Philadelphia, both in the past for ECW and in the present for MLW, cautioned against holding Aramis and Arez to the same standard as Mysterio and Psicosis. That being said, he shared his belief that fans will enjoy the new generation in its own regard.
“It wouldn’t be fair to compare them to Rey and Psicosis—they revolutionized wrestling and there has been no one like them since; Arez and Aramís will get over for different reasons,” Konnan said. “People are really going to get into them.”
