A wave of excitement rippled through the internet this past Saturday with breaking news that WWE WrestleMania 42 might be coming to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During a Twitter Q&A session, Pennsylvania’s governor, Josh Shapiro, hinted that in 2026, Philadelphia would be putting on the phenomenal event of WrestleMania 42, along with several other scheduled events for the same year.
Philadelphia had the privilege of hosting WWE’s WrestleMania 40 at the Lincoln Financial Field earlier this year. Plus, it’s been confirmed that the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas is all set to house WrestleMania 41 in 2025, and plans are underway for another WrestleMania at Indianapolis, Indiana’s Lucas Oil Stadium.
However, conflicting reports later emerged highlighting that WWE has not discussed the 2026 location internally. A trustworthy insider plugged into the event’s planning shared that no decision about the location had been firmly made. Interestingly, the organization seemed to be taken aback by the governor’s remarks.
There is conjecture that Governor Shapiro may have made a verbal misstep when talking about WWE and WrestleMania 42, but this remains unverified. Media outlet Fightful then reported that the Governor’s Office had issued an apology, stating their initial statement about the 2026 WrestleMania happening in Philadelphia was a mistake.
The issued statement read,
”The Governor’s office has reached out to Fightful saying that their comment today indicating WrestleMania 2026 to Philly was a mistake: “This statement was mistaken, and we apologize for the confusion amid all the incredible events Pennsylvania is excited to host in 2026. While WrestleMania won’t be here in ‘26, we look forward to continuing to work with WWE and wrestling fans all across our Commonwealth to bring more great events to PA in the future.” This was from Manuel Bonder, spokesperson for Governor Shapiro.”
Still, WWE has yet to make the official announcement regarding the location for WrestleMania 42.
