Apollo Crews was set to take on Kevin Owens in the ring for the WWE Intercontinental Championship during this week’s Friday Night SmackDown without the help of Commander Azeez. However, Azeez assaulted Owens prior to the match, resulting in a hampered Owens losing his title shot against Crews.
Speaking with WWE backstage following his successful title defense, Crews said that he doesn’t think he did anything wrong, and broke no rules in his match against Owens. Crews was very careful to say that the stipulation was simply that Azeez couldn’t be ringside with him, and that he wasn’t. However, Crews said he can’t control what Azeez does before that, and he did his job in the ring by defeating Kevin Owens.
Crews ended things by saying that what’s next for him is a celebration, and whoever else may want to step in his way will meet the same fate that the rest of his opponents have.
