In a recent interview with Pride.com, professional wrestler Anthony Bowens emphasized the growing inclusion of LGBTQ+ wrestlers within the industry. Bowens also provided insights into how he is perceived by fans at All Elite Wrestling (AEW).

Below are some highlights from the podcast:

Bowens, an openly gay wrestler, shared his sense of belonging within AEW. His decision to join AEW in 2020 was influenced by the accepting locker room environment and the freedom given to performers. He was impressed by AEW’s inclusiveness, recognizing Nyla Rose, the first trans woman to win a major national title, and performer Sonny Kiss.

Bowens also discussed an incident when the AEW crowd openly supported his orientation. He describes his activism as subtly leading by example, rather than confrontationally.

He noted the increasing acceptance of LGBTQ+ athletes in the business. Bowens mentioned appearances of out LGBTQ athletes on independent promotions and on AEW shows as significant progress from when he first started in the industry.

In addition, wrestling promoter Mike Santana reflected on his Puerto Rican Weekend event held in New York City on a recent Saturday night. Santana expressed his gratitude and excitement on Twitter following the event. He emphasized the importance of representing and celebrating his heritage, thanking House of Glory (HOG), all participants and the enthusiastic fans.

Santana further stated his mission was to showcase the past, present, and future of Puerto Rican wrestling and feels successful in achieving it. He promised a return next year and urged fans who haven’t seen the show to watch it. Santana proudly declared himself as the king of the event and is still relishing the moment.
