In an interview with For the Love of Wrestling, Johnny TV (John Morrison) spoke about CM Punk’s time in AEW.

He also stated why he feels that Punk started to ‘believe his own hype.’ Punk had backstage incidents with The Elite and Jack Perry before departing last year. He said,

I have no problem with Punk We ended up riding together for two years –- me, him, and [Luke] Gallows. I just feel like he kind of lost it. I feel like he went too far in the direction of, ‘I want this for me. I’m the best.’ Believing his own hype, clearly like when he decided to be a UFC fighter, believed his own hype took over, like not thinking through. Aside from that, can’t say too much about him, other than we rode together, got along, he’s a divisive, polarizing figure. The people that don’t like him I’m friends with, and they have very solid points. I’ll leave it at that.

In a recent interview with For the Love of Wrestling, Johnny TV (John Morrison) opened up about CM Punk’s time in AEW and shared his thoughts on why he believes Punk started to “believe his own hype.” Punk had some backstage incidents with The Elite and Jack Perry before leaving the company last year.

Johnny TV, who had no issues with Punk personally, revealed that they used to ride together for two years along with Luke Gallows. However, he expressed his belief that Punk went too far in the direction of self-importance, constantly thinking about his own success and considering himself the best. This, according to Johnny TV, led to Punk believing his own hype, which became evident when he decided to pursue a career as a UFC fighter without fully thinking through the consequences.

While Johnny TV didn’t delve into further details about Punk, he acknowledged that Punk is a divisive and polarizing figure. He mentioned that he has friends who don’t like Punk and they have valid reasons for their opinions. However, he chose not to elaborate on those points.

CM Punk’s time in AEW was highly anticipated by wrestling fans around the world. After leaving WWE in 2014, Punk took a long hiatus from professional wrestling before making his return in AEW in 2021. His arrival generated significant buzz and excitement within the wrestling community.

However, Punk’s tenure in AEW was not without its controversies. Reports of backstage incidents involving Punk and other wrestlers, including The Elite (a prominent faction in AEW) and Jack Perry (the son of late wrestler Luke Perry), surfaced during his time with the company. These incidents seemed to have strained relationships and may have contributed to Punk’s departure from AEW.

Johnny TV’s comments shed some light on the dynamics behind the scenes and provide insight into Punk’s mindset during his time in AEW. It appears that Punk’s self-belief and desire for personal success may have overshadowed his ability to maintain positive relationships with his colleagues.

It is worth noting that Punk’s decision to venture into the world of mixed martial arts (MMA) with the UFC was met with mixed reactions. While some admired his courage to pursue a different career path, others criticized his lack of experience and questioned his ability to succeed in such a demanding sport. Ultimately, Punk’s UFC career did not go as planned, with him facing two consecutive losses before parting ways with the organization.

In conclusion, Johnny TV’s interview provides an interesting perspective on CM Punk’s time in AEW and offers some insight into the challenges he faced during his tenure. It highlights the importance of maintaining healthy relationships within the wrestling industry and serves as a reminder that believing in one’s own hype can have both positive and negative consequences.
