On a recent edition of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, Bully Ray addressed the return of Shawn Spears to WWE after what Ray felt was an underwhelming AEW run. He said,

“It was great to see Shawn Spears back … but when it comes to the misuse of talent in AEW, I can probably put Shawn Spears up in the top three names of guys that were just not used, mistakes were made … whatever you want to call it.”

Bully Ray added that Spears’ introduction and steel chair attack on Cody Rhodes was a strong start that AEW never really capitalized on. He added,

“They tried to repackage him with Tully, that didn’t really work. What went wrong with Shawn Spears and AEW?”

Spears returned to WWE on this week’s episode of WWE NXT with an attack on Ridge Holland. Spears used a steel chair in his attack, continuing his AEW gimmick.

Shawn Spears Returns to WWE NXT After Underwhelming AEW Run

Former AEW wrestler Shawn Spears made his return to WWE NXT this week, leaving fans questioning what went wrong during his time in All Elite Wrestling. The topic was recently discussed on the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, where wrestling veteran Bully Ray expressed his disappointment with how Spears was utilized in AEW.

Ray stated, “It was great to see Shawn Spears back, but when it comes to the misuse of talent in AEW, I can probably put Shawn Spears up in the top three names of guys that were just not used, mistakes were made… whatever you want to call it.”

One of the standout moments for Spears in AEW was his introduction and steel chair attack on Cody Rhodes. Many fans believed this would be the start of a promising storyline for Spears, but according to Ray, AEW failed to capitalize on this momentum.

“They tried to repackage him with Tully, that didn’t really work. What went wrong with Shawn Spears and AEW?” Ray questioned.

However, Spears’ return to WWE NXT has reignited interest in his career. During his comeback, he attacked Ridge Holland with a steel chair, continuing the aggressive persona he had developed in AEW.

The move back to WWE may provide Spears with a fresh start and an opportunity to showcase his skills in a different environment. It remains to be seen how WWE will utilize him moving forward, but fans are hopeful that he will be given more significant storylines and opportunities to shine.

Spears’ situation highlights the challenges faced by wrestlers who may not find success in one promotion but are able to thrive in another. The wrestling industry is highly competitive, and not every talent will find their footing in every company. However, the ability to adapt and make the most of new opportunities is crucial for any wrestler looking to make a lasting impact.

As wrestling fans eagerly await future developments in Shawn Spears’ career, it is clear that his return to WWE NXT has generated excitement and curiosity. Only time will tell if this move will prove to be the right one for Spears and if he can finally reach his full potential in the world of professional wrestling.
