Jimmy Jacobs worked with CM Punk early in his career in ROH, and he recalled how Punk became fond of him during their time in the company.
On a recent edition of the “Developmentally Speaking” podcast, Jacobs reminisced about his ROH career, and you can check out some highlights from the podcast below:
On getting to know Punk better in ROH: “I’d known CM Punk since I was like 16, he didn’t particularly like me, but once Shelley and I started working for Ian, Punk took a liking to us… He told Gabe and Gabe was like ‘Oh yeah, I’ve seen their stuff, they’re good, I’ll put them on the main show!’ So, me and Shelly, and BJ Whitmer and Tony Mameluke had a four-way in Philadelphia.”
On not having WWE aspirations at first: “It wasn’t until I was maybe 22 or 23 that I was like ‘Oh, I might make it to WWE.’ I was on a trajectory that probably would’ve hit that but the trajectory plateaued and it never happened.”
On filling a hole left by Punk in ROH: “I had my own brand, right, I had the Ballad of Lacy and the Age of the Fall so I was the character that fit into that role.”

CM Punk, whose real name is Phillip Jack Brooks, is a professional wrestler who gained fame during his time in Ring of Honor (ROH) before making a name for himself in the WWE. Recently, Jimmy Jacobs, who worked with Punk in ROH, shared some insights into their relationship and Punk’s early career.
During a podcast called “Developmentally Speaking,” Jacobs revealed that he had known CM Punk since he was 16 years old. However, Punk didn’t particularly like him initially. It wasn’t until Jacobs and his partner Alex Shelley started working for Ian Rotten that Punk took a liking to them. He even spoke highly of their work to ROH booker Gabe Sapolsky, which led to them being featured on the main show. This marked the beginning of a friendship and professional collaboration between Punk and Jacobs.

Jacobs stepped up to fill that void with his own unique character, known as “The Ballad of Lacey and the Age of the Fall.” This storyline allowed Jacobs to showcase his talent and creativity, making him an integral part of ROH during that period.
To provide fans with more insight into their relationship and Punk’s early career, Jacobs shared a video interview on the podcast. The interview, titled “Jimmy Jacobs S9 E1 (WWE,TNA,AEW,ROH),” delves deeper into their time together and offers a firsthand account of their experiences.
