The fiercely escalating rivalry between AJ Styles and Cody Rhodes reached a critical point in the most recent WWE SmackDown episode, setting the stage for decisive developments in the future.
To set things off, Cody Rhodes, the currently undisputed WWE Universal Champion, made an appearance on Friday night to deliver an anticipatory speech for his forthcoming “I Quit” battle against the Phenomenal One at the much-hyped WWE Cash at the Castle 2024 event.
However, before Rhodes could fully express his thoughts, Styles intervened and implied that the American Nightmare is quite well-versed with the concept of “quitting.” The Phenomenal One mentioned NJPW (New Japan Pro Wrestling) and ROH (Ring Of Honor) and controversially reminded Rhodes of his departure from a company he helped establish, which is a pointed reference to AEW (All Elite Wrestling).
Rhodes was undeterred, confidently responding that he has never feared “abandoning a comfort zone in pursuit of something more significant.”
As the segment was drawing to a close, Styles threw a final, burning remark at Rhodes by telling him he had already “quit on himself,” and he anticipates similar actions on Rhodes’ part in the upcoming WWE Clash at the Castle: Scotland pay-per-view event.
