All Elite Wrestling is finally making its debut in New York City.

According to an announcement by Tony Khan on today’s episode of “Moose and Maggie” on WFAN 660 New York, AEW Dynamite will take place at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens.

“We’re really excited about coming to the Prudential Center on September 15, and that is not my announcement, however. I’m excited about spending a lot of time up here and coming into New York City because on September 22, we’re going to be presenting AEW Dynamite Grand Slam from Arthur Ashe Stadium. It’ll be the first wrestling event they’ve ever done and I’m very excited about coming into New York City for the first time, bringing AEW to New York, and I wanted to announce it here on your show.”

Khan explained the decision to hold Dynamite at the famed venue, located near the New York Mets’ Citi Field in Queens.

“It’s one of the most iconic sporting venues, every seat is a great seat at Arthur Ashe Stadium. It’s going to be a tremendous crowd and it’s going to be very accessible for the fans, but in terms of seating and capacity, I couldn’t find a better venue. It’s never hosted a wrestling event, it’s perfect for us. It’s non-traditional, but I really think a tennis stadium sets up in general, and this happens to be the greatest tennis stadium in the world in the greatest city in the world. I thought it would be appropriate for us to debut AEW there and break it in for wrestling and hopefully start a great tradition with AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam on September 22.”

Tickets for the event will go on sale on July 16.

All Elite Wrestling was initially scheduled to debut in New York state with an event in Rochester last year, but that event was rescheduled due to COVID-19. That event has now been re-scheduled for September 29. AEW’s first tri-state area event was originally set to be the “Blood & Guts” themed episode of Dynamite last match at the Prudential Center; Khan confirmed AEW would debut in Newark on September 15.
