Chris Estell, the head of AEW (All Elite Wrestling) Wardrobe department, was a recent guest on the “AEW Unrestricted” podcast. One of the many topics discussed was how Estell once made a mask forUltimo Guerrero, a Mexican professional wrestler, on very short notice – just two hours.
Estell recalls Jimmy Jacobs asking him if he could make the mask. Despite Estell’s initial reluctance due to the tight timeline and the complexity of making a lucha mask, he accepted the task.
Speaking about the difficulties he faced during the mask construction, Estell mentions his inability to use quill tape, which is essential to maintain the mask’s shape. Furthermore, Estell didn’t get to the lace up at the back, but the production team managed to hide some of the flaws. He finally managed to create the mask with assistance from a friend named John.
Guerreo was very appreciative of Estell’s effort and even put a Facebook post out thanking him. Estell shares that receiving appreciation from a legendary figure like Guerrero means a lot to him. He sees it as testament to Guerrero’s kind character and the respect for craftsmanship in Mexican culture.
