The lineup for AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door III is shaping up quite nicely, featuring an exciting Winner Takes All bout at the forthcoming pay-per-view event.

During the June 5, 2024 broadcast of AEW Dynamite, it was declared that Mercedes Moné will be defending her AEW TBS Championship against Stephanie Vaquer from CMLL, who will also stake her New Japan Pro-Wrestling STRONG Women’s Championship.

The expectation is high as the match is slated to be a title-for-title fight. Regardless of the result, fans will witness an immense shift in the professional wrestling landscape. Notably, even though Vaquer is currently the holder of both the CMLL World Women’s Championship and CMLL World Women’s Tag Team Championship, these titles won’t be on the line.

History reveals Moné’s win against Vaquer in the semi-finals of the STRONG women’s championship at Resurgence 2023, although she ultimately lost to Willow Nightingale. Interestingly, the title continues to hold a special significance for Moné, who firmly believes she was destined to triumph in that tournament.

It was announced via Twitter on June 6, 2024 by All Elite Wrestling:

“IT’S OFFICIAL! June 30th at Forbidden Door! Title for title! TBS Champion Mercedes Moné vs. NJPW Strong Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer. Watch #AEWDynamite LIVE on TBS! @MercedesVarnado | @Steph_Vaquer”
