Some members of the AEW roster are refusing to go ahead with Tony Khan’s creative plans in a sign of growing resentment within the All Elite promotion.
On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez spoke about the issues stemming from AEW and why talent are feeling unhappy with management. He said,
“I don’t want to compare this to like WWE back in the day but it is very, very much like that and a lot of people are very frustrated because they don’t find out the Tuesday before. Some people do, some people will know what they’re doing because there are a couple of matches usually advertised in advance. But most people are showing up the day of the show and finding out if they are doing anything or not. There’s very little communication.
“I’ve been hearing about this for months, people are very frustrated. They show up, ‘Here’s what you’re gonna do’. Lots of people will complain and it gets changed which is also a big problem I hear about all the time. People don’t want to do something and Tony doesn’t make them do it. There’s a lot of this.
“Trying to put together these shows is just a whirlwind of ‘Will this person do this? They don’t want you? What can we do? Will you do it?’. There’s a lot, a lot, a lot, of frustration. There’s also injuries that he deals with and no there’s not shows put together a week in advance or two weeks in advance. The days of long-term booking, they’re gone.”
AEW will host its Revolution 2024 pay-per-view event this weekend from Greensboro, North Carolina, a show that has seen changes to the card.
Tony Khan has confirmed that the Meat Madness match has been put ‘on ice’ due to injuries. Instead, an All-Star Scramble match will happen.
Powerhouse Hobbs, Wardlow, and Lance Archer, who were confirmed for Meat Madness, will be participants in the All-Star Scramble match.
In recent news, it has been revealed that some members of the All Elite Wrestling (AEW) roster are refusing to go along with Tony Khan’s creative plans. This growing resentment within the promotion has raised concerns about communication and management within AEW.
During a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez shed light on the issues that talent are facing in AEW. He compared the situation to the frustrations experienced in WWE in the past, stating that many individuals are unhappy because they often find out about their roles on the day of the show. While a few matches may be advertised in advance, most wrestlers are left in the dark until the last minute, leading to a lack of communication and frustration.
Alvarez revealed that this problem has been ongoing for months and that it has caused significant dissatisfaction among the talent. Wrestlers show up for events without knowing what they will be doing, only to be informed on the day itself. Furthermore, if wrestlers express their concerns or objections to certain storylines or matches, Tony Khan is reportedly flexible and willing to make changes. While this may seem like a positive aspect, it also adds to the chaos and uncertainty surrounding the shows.
Long-term booking, a staple of professional wrestling, seems to be a thing of the past in AEW. Shows are not put together weeks or even days in advance, but rather on short notice. This lack of planning and organization has led to frustration among both the talent and fans who appreciate a well-thought-out storyline.
The upcoming Revolution 2024 pay-per-view event, scheduled to take place in Greensboro, North Carolina, has already seen changes to its card. Tony Khan confirmed that the Meat Madness match has been put “on ice” due to injuries. Instead, an All-Star Scramble match will take place, featuring participants such as Powerhouse Hobbs, Wardlow, and Lance Archer.
While injuries are an unfortunate reality in professional wrestling, the fact that changes are being made so close to the event raises questions about the overall stability and preparation within AEW. Fans and wrestlers alike hope for a more organized and predictable approach to future shows.
In conclusion, the growing resentment within the AEW roster regarding Tony Khan’s creative plans highlights the need for better communication and long-term booking strategies. The last-minute nature of decision-making and constant changes to matches can lead to frustration and uncertainty among both talent and fans. As AEW continues to grow and establish itself as a major player in the wrestling industry, addressing these concerns will be crucial for its long-term success.
