AEW commentator Tony Schiavone has confirmed previous reports that the promotion talked with Martha Hart before Sting’s entrance from the rafters during a recent episode of Dynamite.
Earlier this month, it was reported that AEW discussed the spot with Hart given that her husband Owen tragically passed away after a similar stunt went wrong in 1999.
On a recent edition of his “What Happened When” podcast, Schiavone confirmed that AEW sought Hart’s approval regarding the Sting spot. He said,
“Tony [Khan] did call Martha Hart, I was there when he f***ng called her. He told me, ‘Go let Sting, Darby, and the Bucks know that Martha Hart and I have talked and she has given it her blessing.’ I went and told them what the communication was. Would not have done it without first talking to Martha Hart.”
Sting would descend from the rafters to fight off The Young Bucks on the February 28 episode of AEW Dynamite after the pair had attacked Darby Allin and Ric Flair.
Sting and Allin defeated The Young Bucks at AEW Revolution 2024 to retain the AEW World Tag Team Championships in the Icon’s final match.
