Recently, AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone and ROH Women’s World Champion Athena engaged in an online skirmish on social media platforms. These exchanges seem to hint at a broader strategy in development by AEW.

According to reports by Fightful Select, strategists at AEW are orchestrating a major face-off between these two titans of the wrestling world.

Insiders suggest that this highly anticipated match could potentially take place at the upcoming Dynasty 2025 event on Sunday, April 6th.

Mone, who clinched the TBS title in May 2024, has managed to retain it for an impressive duration of more than 298 days. On the other hand, Athena has been reigning as the ROH Women’s World Champion since December 2022 when she won the title at ROH Final Battle. Her championship reign has now exceeded two years, surpassing 831 days.

Interestingly, Athena has not been seen on any AEW TV telecast since her title defense against Red Velvet on AEW Battle of the Belts X.

It’s worth noting that Athena and Mone last faced off in May 2018 during a Triple Threat match on WWE RAW. Therefore, their potential bout in the AEW ring would mark their first collaborative work in almost seven years.
