Jim Ross recently talked about a wide range of topics on his Grilling JR podcast.

During it, the WWE Hall of Famer discussed signing a new deal with AEW. Here are the highlights.

On whether he enjoys working only the pay-per-views:

“Yeah, I do because it gives you ample time, if you think about it, and you put your creative hats on, from a talent standpoint and an administration standpoint, it’s a good thing,” Ross said. “It gives you time to build. It gives you a month, and in today’s world, a month is an eternity, in today’s quick-process mindset that we are seemingly all in. So I like it. For me, that’s my schedule. Tony Khan hired me back to do pay-per-views, so once a month is great for me personally, and I hope that somewhere along the way there’s another assignment for two thrown in there at times, either on Dynamite or Collision.”

On potentially doing more work:

“I think pay-per-views is what Tony had slotted me to come in and contribute to,” Ross said. “They’re gonna be once a month, and that’s when I’ll be there. But I would not be surprised if somewhere down the road, I suggested this to him, maybe me doing a Collision on the go-home show, the last Collision before the pay-per-view, I think that might be a thought. But you know how us old carny types are, we’re just always trying to get ourselves booked. So there’s that. I enjoy working. When you get to be 72 years old, and you’ve had a 50-year career, you really appreciate working. It’s just part of my DNA. I have miserable weeks the weeks of the pay-per-views because I am so looking forward to them that the time doesn’t pass fast enough.”

Jim Ross Discusses New Deal with AEW and Working on Pay-Per-Views

In a recent episode of his Grilling JR podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross opened up about signing a new deal with All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and his role within the company. Ross, known for his iconic commentary in the world of professional wrestling, shared his thoughts on working exclusively on pay-per-view events and the possibility of taking on additional assignments.

When asked about his preference for working only the pay-per-views, Ross expressed his satisfaction with the arrangement. He highlighted the advantages of having ample time to build storylines and develop creative ideas, both from a talent and administration standpoint. In today’s fast-paced world, where instant gratification is often sought, having a month to prepare for a pay-per-view event allows for a more comprehensive and well-thought-out production.

Ross acknowledged that Tony Khan, the president and CEO of AEW, hired him specifically for the pay-per-view shows. The veteran commentator expressed his contentment with the once-a-month schedule, emphasizing that it suits him personally. However, Ross also hinted at the possibility of taking on additional assignments in the future, such as appearing on AEW’s weekly television show, Dynamite, or participating in special events like Collision.

The 72-year-old wrestling legend admitted that he enjoys working and appreciates the opportunity to continue doing what he loves. With a career spanning over 50 years, Ross’s passion for the industry remains unwavering. He even confessed to experiencing “miserable weeks” leading up to pay-per-view events due to his eagerness and anticipation.

Ross’s dedication to his craft and desire to contribute to AEW’s success are evident in his willingness to suggest new ideas to Tony Khan. One such suggestion was for him to appear on the go-home show, Collision, before a pay-per-view event. This strategic move would help build anticipation and excitement among fans, further enhancing the overall viewing experience.

As the wrestling world eagerly awaits AEW’s upcoming pay-per-view events, fans can rest assured that Jim Ross will be there to provide his unique insight and commentary. With his wealth of experience and passion for the industry, Ross continues to be a valuable asset to AEW and the wrestling community as a whole.
