The 2024 AEW Grand Slam started with quite a spectacle as Nigel McGuinness doubled down on his challenge to Bryan Danielson, who didn’t appear willing to face up to it. McGuinness insisted on a referee’s 10-count and proceeded to claim victory assuming Danielson’s reluctance to face him. However, just six seconds later, the familiar strains of ‘The Final Countdown’ filled Arthur Ashe Stadium, signaling the entrance of the reigning AEW world champion.
Their highly-anticipated contest ended with Bryan Danielson forcing Nigel McGuinness to submit, which could be the concluding chapter of their feud (although this could change). The idea of a post-match celebration was instantly dismissed when the spotlight shifted to the entrance of Christian Cage.
Sporting a contract granting him a title shot at any moment, Cage seemed ready to formalize his challenge then and there, ideally capitalizing on an exhausted Danielson. However, his plans were thwarted by Kip Sabian, who emerged from behind, swiping the pen and hindering Cage from cashing in his opportunity.

After stealing the pen, Sabian quickly absconded, followed by Cage who almost collided with PAC and Claudio Castagnoli. The pair observed ominously, hinting at potential plans to target Danielson once more – though nothing materialized at that point.
