The 5th anniversary episode of AEW Dynamite, which aired on September 2nd, reported a decrease in both ratings and viewership, compared to the Grand Slam episode from the previous week.
In an extended episode that ran for 31 minutes more than scheduled, AEW Dynamite pulled in 680,000 viewers and scored a 0.20 rating in the crucial 18-49 demographic, which translates to roughly 274,000 viewers. In the 18-34 demographic, the show managed to garner a rating of 0.11.
A detailed viewership breakdown for each fifteen-minute segment was made available by The Wrestling Observer Newsletter. If AEW Dynamite had adhered to its scheduled runtime, it would have reported 704,000 viewers and a slightly improved 0.21 rating in the 18-49 demographic. For the night, the show stood eighth and fifth in its time slot.
The viewership of AEW Dynamite was surpassed by the Wild Card Series game between the New York Mets and Milwaukee Brewers on ESPN, which reported 3,690,000 viewers and a 0.87 rating, the Atlanta Braves vs. San Diego Padres game on ESPN 2 with 2,059,000 viewers and a 0.52 rating, as well as Fox News’ shows featuring Jesse Watters and Hannity and MTV’s Challenge.
In comparison to the previous week, the viewership of AEW Dynamite dropped by 3.1%, with a decline of 19.6% and 30.7% in the 18-49 and 18-34 demographics respectively. When compared to the similar period of the previous year, the show witnessed a 15% viewership decrease, a 24.7% decrease in the 18-49 demographic, and a 54.9% decrease in the 18-34 demographic.
In terms of gender demographics, the show attracted 61,000 male viewers and 18,000 female viewers in the 18-34 demographic, and 140,000 male viewers and 55,000 female viewers in the 35-49 demographic. The 18-49 viewers comprised predominantly of male viewers, making up 73.4% of the viewership.
