Adam Copeland, a former holder of the AEW TNT Championship, sustained a broken tibia during the AEW Double Or Nothing 2024 pay-per-view event. This injury occurred during his Barbed Wire Steel Cage Match against Malakai Black.
Consequently, Copeland relinquished his title and underwent a surgical procedure to treat the injury. Parts of his recent conversation with Justin Barrasso from Sports Illustrated are detailed below.
Talking about the most significant concern he had during the match: “When I was up there, my primary worry was not severely injuring Malakai Black. The thought of being hurt never crossed my mind. My strategy was to jump to the side, land on my feet, and strike him with my arm without my body impacting him directly. I estimated that due to the extreme height, the table would buckle. Everything transpired just as I imagined it.”
Updating about his recovery process: “A few years ago, I suffered an Achilles tear, which was followed by an intense rehabilitation process. I anticipate a similar experience this time around. Being 50 years old, I’m aware of what lies ahead. Nevertheless, the operation went smoothly, and the physician was optimistic due to the sound state of my bones. As an individual who has gone through seven surgeries, I am familiar with this process. It remains to be seen how my body will adjust.”
