During Saturday’s AEW Full Gear 2023 pay-per-view event, MJF and Samoa Joe defended the ROH World Tag Team Championships against The Gunns.

Following the match, Austin and Colten Gunn attacked MJF’s leg and ‘injured’ it. As MJF was driven out in an ambulance, the AEW World Champion asked his friend Adam Cole not to let “them” take his title.

Later during the show, Tony Schiavone announced that the main event AEW World Title match between MJF and Jay White had been canceled.

As Schiavone was about to reveal that White was the new AEW World Champion, Cole interrupted, declaring that he would not let White win the belt without a fair fight and that Tony Khan had permitted him to defend the title in MJF’s place.

Hence, the new main event for tonight’s AEW Full Gear 2023 pay-per-view event will be Adam Cole vs. Jay White for the AEW World Title.

Cole has not competed since AEW All Out 2023. He broke his ankle in multiple places following Dynamite: Grand Slam, which was surgically repaired.
