As we reported yesterday here on eWn, BJ Whitmer was sentenced on charges of domestic violence this week, and the sentencing memorandum has been released with new details on the process. The former wrestler and AEW producer was sentenced to 120 days of house arrest on charges of strangulation and second-degree burglary relating to a June 2023 incident, which led to his immediate termination from AEW. Investigative reporter BJ Bethel has released the sentencing memorandum with the victim’s name redacted, which provides some details on why a plea deal was reached.
According to the memorandum, the Commonwealth of Kentucky met with the victim on January 17 to discuss plea deal opens and the reasons for each of them, but the victim disagreed with all offers. She was told that she has the right to convey her thoughts on the matter to the court at the sentencing hearing. Whitmer accepted an Alford plea on both charges on January 29th. An Alford plea is one in which the defendant acknowledges there is enough evidence for a reasonable jury to convict and thus pleads guilty, while still maintaining their innocence. It is also known as a “best interests” plea.
The memorandum goes on to say that the Commonwealth explained to the victim that much of the trial would boil down to the credibility between the victim and Whitmer “how unpredictable these determinations can be.” It was noted that the victim never had a medical examination done after the incident and there was no “physical evidence” to present at a trial. The document notes that the victim spoke with Whitmer’s employer (AEW) and received a “cash settlement and signed a non-disclosure agreement,” which Whitmer’s defense time confirmed.
It went on to say that:
“The Commonwealth anticipates that [DELETED] would testify at trial that her emails to AEW were meant to be informational and she had no intention of seeking compensation. The Commonwealth acknowledges that these emails would be open to interpretation by a Jury.”
Several sources in AEW indicated at the time of Whitmer’s arrest that the company reached out to the victim to provide any personal support they could following the arrest.

Her appearance at Spark Joshi’s Trailblaze 2024 is sure to draw a large crowd of fans eager to see her in action. The event promises to be a thrilling showcase of talent, with Aja Kong taking center stage.
Spark Joshi’s Trailblaze 2024 is not the only wrestling event happening in Philadelphia during WrestleMania Week. WrestleCon, a popular convention for wrestling fans, has also announced some exciting appearances. Atsushi Onita, Yoshihiro Tajiri, Willow Nightingale, and Allie (The Bunny) are among the stars set to appear at this year’s WrestleCon, which will take place from April 4-7. This convention is a must-attend for wrestling enthusiasts looking to meet their favorite stars and immerse themselves in the world of professional wrestling.
In addition to these events, HighspotsAuctions.com has announced upcoming signing dates featuring some notable names. Mick Foley, Kevin Von Erich, Stacy Keibler, and Serena Deeb are among the wrestlers scheduled to appear for signings on various dates in March. These signings provide fans with the opportunity to meet their favorite wrestlers and obtain autographs or memorabilia.
While there is much excitement surrounding these upcoming events, there is also some unfortunate news regarding former wrestler and AEW producer BJ Whitmer. Whitmer was recently sentenced on charges of domestic violence, leading to his immediate termination from AEW. The sentencing memorandum, released by investigative reporter BJ Bethel, provides some details on the process and the victim’s involvement.
According to the memorandum, the victim disagreed with all plea deal offers presented to her by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. She was informed of her right to convey her thoughts on the matter to the court during the sentencing hearing. Whitmer ultimately accepted an Alford plea, which is a plea in which the defendant acknowledges there is enough evidence for a reasonable jury to convict, while still maintaining their innocence.
The memorandum also mentions that the victim never underwent a medical examination after the incident, and there was no physical evidence to present at a trial. It is noted that the victim had communication with AEW and received a cash settlement, as well as signing a non-disclosure agreement. The Commonwealth anticipates that the victim would testify at trial that her emails to AEW were meant to be informational and that she had no intention of seeking compensation.
It is important to note that several sources within AEW have indicated that the company reached out to the victim to provide support following Whitmer’s arrest.
While this news surrounding BJ Whitmer is unfortunate, it serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing and condemning domestic violence. The wrestling community must continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of all individuals involved in the industry.
In conclusion, the wrestling world is abuzz with exciting events and announcements. Aja Kong’s appearance at Spark Joshi’s Trailblaze 2024 promises to be a highlight for fans, while WrestleCon offers an opportunity to meet wrestling stars. Additionally, upcoming signings provide fans with the chance to obtain autographs and memorabilia. However, amidst this excitement, it is crucial to address and condemn instances of domestic violence, as highlighted by BJ Whitmer’s recent sentencing. The wrestling community must continue to strive for a safe and inclusive environment for all involved.
