The Potential Impact of a Sting vs The Undertaker Dream Match

Sting spoke with Shakiel Mahjouri of CBS Sports ahead of his retirement match at AEW Revolution this Sunday.

During it, the AEW star discussed the dream match against The Undertaker that never happened in WWE. He said,

“I think if it was done right, it could have been a night, for sure, everyone would remember and never forget,” Sting told Shakiel Mahjouri of CBS Sports. “They would be talking about it to this day. But it just was not going to happen. I thought, ‘Well, maybe if I get my foot in the door, we’ll see what happens.’ So I got my foot in the door. We did a WrestleMania with Triple H and then Vince [Vince McMahon] called and said, ‘Hey, I want you to have a world title match with Seth. Would you be willing to do that?’ ‘Yeah, I’d be willing to do that.’ Still, in hopes that somehow I could get in there with Taker.”

He continued, “I had so many ideas over the years. A lot of times, smoke and mirrors aren’t good things. But in our situation, I think with his gimmick and the mystiques of his character and mine, we couldn’t have enough smoke and mirrors. I think it definitely would have been a night that people remembered. Man, I would have loved to have seen that. If I could have had that match alone, I would have been great. I wouldn’t have had to do anything else.”

Sting Reflects on His Dream Match with The Undertaker That Never Happened

Sting, one of the most iconic figures in professional wrestling, recently opened up about his long-desired dream match against The Undertaker that never came to fruition during his time in WWE. In an interview with CBS Sports, Sting expressed his disappointment but also shared his thoughts on how the match could have been a monumental moment in wrestling history.

The dream match between Sting and The Undertaker had been a topic of speculation and anticipation among wrestling fans for years. Both wrestlers had established themselves as legends in the industry, with their unique characters and captivating in-ring performances. However, despite the fans’ fervent desire to witness this clash of titans, the match never materialized.

Sting revealed that he believed the match could have been an unforgettable night that people would still be talking about to this day. He acknowledged the importance of doing it right, ensuring that every aspect of the match was carefully planned and executed. Sting’s vision for the encounter involved utilizing smoke and mirrors to enhance the mystique surrounding both his and The Undertaker’s characters.

The AEW star also shared his disappointment at not being able to have the match even after he had joined WWE. Sting’s initial hope was that by getting his foot in the door with the company, he would eventually have the opportunity to face The Undertaker. However, he found himself involved in other storylines and matches, such as his WrestleMania bout with Triple H and a world title match against Seth Rollins.

Sting’s admiration for The Undertaker’s gimmick and character was evident as he expressed his desire to create a memorable spectacle with him. He believed that their combined personas would have benefited from the use of smoke and mirrors, adding an extra layer of intrigue and excitement to the match. Sting emphasized that if he had been able to have this dream match alone, he would have been satisfied and felt no need to do anything else in his career.

While Sting’s dream match with The Undertaker may never come to pass, the wrestling world can still appreciate the impact both of these legends have had on the industry. Their contributions have left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of fans worldwide. Sting’s retirement match at AEW Revolution may be the final chapter in his storied career, but his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of wrestlers.

In the end, Sting’s reflection on his dream match serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of professional wrestling. Despite the disappointment of not being able to face The Undertaker, Sting’s passion for the business and his desire to create memorable moments remain unwavering. Wrestling fans can only imagine what could have been, but they can still appreciate the incredible careers of both Sting and The Undertaker.
