Following the 2024 Royal Rumble pay-per-view pay-per-view event, Drew McIntyre came out on RAW to cut a promo where he mocked CM Punk over his injury.
During a recent interview with The West Sport, the Scottish Psychopath commented on the promo and the reaction it received from the fans in attendance. He said,
“When it comes to the injury and how I felt about him coming into the company leap-frogging Superstars, trying to take their spot at WrestleMania, specifically my spot at WrestleMania, I was never going to let it happen,” McIntyre said (per Wrestling Inc). “I took him out and I wanted to let him know that I prayed for this, and it happened. The way people reacted, it was like a delayed reaction, like ‘Oh my God, did you just say that?’ I can feel it in the arena.”
He continued, “Then the next line I think I said was [that] after the Rumble, when I got eliminated by him, I couldn’t sleep. I’d let myself down, I’d let the world down. Not winning that Rumble, but more specifically getting eliminated by Punk, then the next day I found out that he’d torn his tricep off the bone, and that night I slept like a baby. Then [I] headed into ‘Raw’ with a big smile on my face, then attacked him and stomped his tricep and chucked him back out the door, and said ‘Right. Where were we? Oh yeah, me main eventing WrestleMania.”
Bully Ray didn’t like the idea of Baron Corbin being sent back down to the WWE NXT brand, and he would like to see WWE have a plan in place when he eventually makes his return to the main roster.
On a recent edition of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, Bully Ray opined on what’s next for Baron Corbin, and more.
You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:
On Baron Corbin being sent to NXT: “I think it was a travesty that Baron Corbin was ever sent down to NXT. The only bright spot about Baron being sent down there is how much he’s been able to help the other talent be elevated. Baron Corbin did not do one thing on the main roster that ever made me believe he should have been, and I’m not going to say demoted or sent down to, but be shifted over to NXT.”
On what’s next for Corbin: “You better make sure you have something really strong for him [on the main roster]. Because if you bring him back up to the main roster and you invest a month in him and then you just drop it, he’s going to look like crap again. He’s going to have a bad perception in fans’ eyes.”
In a recent promo on RAW, Drew McIntyre mocked CM Punk over his injury, and the Scottish Psychopath has now commented on the promo and the reaction it received from the fans. McIntyre stated that he was not going to let Punk come into the company and take his spot at WrestleMania. He took Punk out and wanted to let him know that he prayed for this moment. The crowd’s reaction was delayed, but McIntyre could feel the impact in the arena.
McIntyre further explained that after being eliminated by Punk in the Royal Rumble, he couldn’t sleep and felt like he had let himself and the world down. However, when he found out that Punk had torn his tricep off the bone, McIntyre slept like a baby. He then attacked Punk on RAW, stomped on his tricep, and continued his pursuit of main eventing WrestleMania.
Bully Ray, on the other hand, expressed his dissatisfaction with Baron Corbin being sent back down to WWE NXT. He believes it was a travesty and that Corbin did not do anything on the main roster to warrant being shifted to NXT. However, Ray acknowledged that Corbin has been able to help elevate other talents during his time in NXT.
Ray also emphasized the importance of having a strong plan for Corbin when he eventually returns to the main roster. He warned that if Corbin is brought back up and then dropped without a proper storyline or direction, it would negatively impact his perception among fans.
The opinions of both McIntyre and Ray highlight the competitive nature of professional wrestling and the importance of maintaining a strong position in the company. McIntyre’s promo against Punk showcased his determination to protect his spot at WrestleMania, while Ray’s comments shed light on the potential consequences of mishandling a talent like Corbin.
Ultimately, these insights provide a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes dynamics of WWE and the strategies employed by wrestlers to secure their positions and maintain their credibility in the eyes of the fans.
