After a sex trafficking lawsuit was filed against Vince McMahon and WWE, Brock Lesnar’s return to WWE TV at the 2024 Royal Rumble had to be canceled. Lesnar, a former WWE/UFC Heavyweight Champion, was the only one who fit the bill regarding the lawsuit naming a former WWE/UFC Heavyweight Champion.
Instead, Bron Breakker stepped in and took Lesnar’s place in the match, which Cody Rhodes eventually won. Lesnar was supposed to wrestle Dominik Mysterio at Elimination Chamber and Intercontinental Champion Gunther at WrestleMania 40.
Both Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter and Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful report WWE has no plans to use Lesnar at this time.
Meltzer wrote, “There are no plans at this time to use Lesnar. Given his star power, saying this is forever is probably foolish. But it’s likely not going to be any time soon. Lesnar has been the company’s first or second highest paid wrestler and one of its most protected stars for the past dozen years, and the fact he’s out of WrestleMania and his future is in jeopardy is amazing because of how little attention it’s gotten.”
After a sex trafficking lawsuit was filed against Vince McMahon and WWE, Brock Lesnar’s highly anticipated return to WWE TV at the 2024 Royal Rumble had to be canceled. Lesnar, a former WWE/UFC Heavyweight Champion, was the only one who fit the bill regarding the lawsuit naming a former WWE/UFC Heavyweight Champion.
The cancellation of Lesnar’s return left fans disappointed, but WWE quickly found a replacement in Bron Breakker, who stepped in and took Lesnar’s place in the match. Ultimately, it was Cody Rhodes who emerged victorious at the Royal Rumble.
Lesnar’s absence from the Royal Rumble also affected his scheduled matches for future events. He was supposed to face Dominik Mysterio at Elimination Chamber and Intercontinental Champion Gunther at WrestleMania 40. However, with the uncertainty surrounding the lawsuit and its implications, WWE decided not to proceed with Lesnar’s involvement in these matches.
Both Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter and Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful have reported that WWE currently has no plans to use Lesnar. This news comes as a surprise considering Lesnar’s star power and his history as one of the company’s highest-paid and most protected stars over the past twelve years.
Meltzer commented on the situation, stating that while it is unlikely that Lesnar will be used in the near future, it would be foolish to say that it will never happen again. Lesnar’s absence from WrestleMania and the uncertainty surrounding his future have received surprisingly little attention, given his status within the company.
The sex trafficking lawsuit against Vince McMahon and WWE has undoubtedly had significant repercussions on the company and its plans for Lesnar. As the legal proceedings unfold, it remains to be seen how this situation will affect Lesnar’s future in WWE.
Fans of Lesnar will have to wait patiently for any updates regarding his potential return to the wrestling world. In the meantime, WWE will continue to navigate the lawsuit and make necessary adjustments to their programming without one of their most prominent stars.
