Lisa Marie Varon, formerly known as WWE superstar Victoria and TNA Knockout Tara, recently appeared on Chasing Glory With Lillian Garcia. Varon discussed growing older, retiring and several other topics. Here are some excerpts:
On growing older:
Varon: “The alternative is death. So every year my birthday comes, I celebrate because birthdays are not guaranteed. You know, when I was in Memphis Championship Wrestling, Jerry Lawler’s school, they had this surprise birthday for me, and I think I was just turning 30. And someone goes, ‘I wouldn’t say anything to the company of your age.’ I started at 30; I was considered old in the entertainment business. And I’m like, ‘What? I look better at 30 than I did at 18 or 21.’
“I’m still that badass when I started but I’m realizing more and more I need to take care of myself. I’m ecstatic to be done and continue onto another adventure.”
On getting powerbombed by Godfather:
Varon: “I saw Godfather at I think Wrestlecon and he goes, I just wanna say, I’m sorry for that powerbomb. It still comes to haunt me, you know, like even when I came backstage, Undertaker goes, ‘Man, what did she owe you?’ Like, did she owe you money?”
To make sure that table broke, he threw me extra hard so it broke. I stayed passed out because I took a Stevie Kick and I didn’t sell it, I was so green. I didn’t sell it and I got yelled at backstage. So when I went through that powerbomb, I’m selling it.”
