On a recent edition of the “AEW Unrestricted” podcast, former WWE Superstar Scotty 2 Hotty (Scott Garland) shared his experience working as a producer and coach for AEW.
You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:
On his coaching philosophy: “I think it’s easier for me to coach by watching them work in front of a live audience. So much of what I do is moments, and character stuff and the psychology and the storytelling. I always say any monkey can do the moves, [anyone] with any athletic ability can do the moves, and when I was younger I thought that’s what it was about.”
On why he likes to watch talents perform in the ring in front of a live audience: “If I can see them perform in front of an audience it’s easier for me to critique them, rather than being in a training facility where you’re teaching. You can teach, but I think I’m more valuable as a coach to teach watching them in front of an audience.”

Former WWE Superstar Scotty 2 Hotty, also known as Scott Garland, recently appeared on the AEW Unrestricted podcast and shared his experience working as a producer and coach for All Elite Wrestling (AEW). In the podcast, he discussed his coaching philosophy and why he prefers to watch talents perform in front of a live audience.
When it comes to coaching, Scotty 2 Hotty believes that it is easier for him to coach by watching wrestlers work in front of a live audience. He emphasizes the importance of moments, character development, psychology, and storytelling in professional wrestling. According to him, anyone with athletic ability can perform the moves, but it takes more than that to truly engage the audience and tell a compelling story in the ring.
Scotty 2 Hotty also explained why he prefers to watch talents perform in front of an audience rather than in a training facility. He believes that critiquing wrestlers becomes easier when he can see them perform in front of an audience. While teaching in a training facility is important, he feels that his value as a coach increases when he can observe wrestlers’ performances in a live setting.
This approach allows him to provide more specific feedback and guidance based on how the audience reacts to the wrestlers’ actions and storytelling in the ring. By witnessing their interactions with the crowd, he can better understand what works and what needs improvement.
Scotty 2 Hotty’s experience as a former WWE Superstar and his understanding of the importance of engaging the audience make him a valuable asset as a coach for AEW. His coaching philosophy focuses on developing well-rounded performers who can entertain and connect with the fans on a deeper level.
In conclusion, Scotty 2 Hotty’s coaching philosophy revolves around the idea that wrestling is more than just executing moves. It involves creating memorable moments, developing characters, and telling compelling stories. By watching talents perform in front of a live audience, he can provide more effective coaching and help them improve their overall performance in the ring.
