Wheeler Yuta defeated Matt Sydeal to retain his ROH Pure Championship on Friday’s episode of AEW Rampage: New Year’s Smash.

Prior to Friday’s AEW Rampage, the leader of the Blackpool Combat Club, Bryan Danielson wanted to ensure that Yuta knew how to smash properly.

Danielson tweeted,Watch Wheeler Yuta SMASH tonight!!! If he doesn’t SMASH appropriately, how should we discipline him? Watch Friday Night #AEWRampage at 10pm ET/9pm CT on TNT, or your suggestion doesn’t count! Also, many thanks to the graphics person who put Rocky’s eyepatch on the other side.”

During Friday’s episode of AEW Rampage: New Year’s Smash, a new match was announced for the “Zero Hour” pre-show at tonight’s Worlds End 2023 pay-per-view event.

Willow Nightingale will take on Kris Statlander on tonight’s pre-show. The match was set up on Rampage as Stokely Hathaway continued to cause dissension between the two friends, questioning Nightingale why it took her so long to rescue Statlander on Wednesday’s edition of AEW Dynamite.

Nightingale and Statlander later both agreed to a singles match at AEW Worlds End 2023.
