Speaking to “Tim and Eli of Battleground” Wight recalled how the stunt was pulled off. He said,

“We did that that night on the roof of Cobo Hall, the monster truck battle. I had wrestling gear and wrestling boots under a firesuit. That’s all I had on. You had to wear a fire suit in those monster trucks because of the high test gasoline. What they don’t tell you is that your pant legs aren’t secured to the bottom of your boots, the whole open under compartment of those monster trucks is just air.

“It was like minus 20 degrees out. I was frozen inside of that monster truck suit, Hogan was freezing, I was freezing. We get to the battle on the wall. I fall off the wall, I drop about 30 feet into an airbag. In the time of my career then, ‘falling into an air bag, cool.’ If you tell me now, ‘You’re going to fall three stories into an airbag,’ ‘No, I’m not. You’re out of your mind.’ I had never fallen into an airbag before. What if I land on my head?”

Later in the show, Wight would return and defeat Hogan for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship in a match that saw the infamous debut of the Yeti.

Paul Wight, also known as The Giant in WCW, recently revealed the details behind his infamous fall from Cobo Hall at WCW Halloween Havoc 1995. This shocking moment left commentators and fans speculating about his well-being. In an interview with Tim and Eli of Battleground, Wight shared the behind-the-scenes story of how the stunt was executed.

The event started with a Monster Truck Sumo battle between Wight and Hulk Hogan on the roof of Cobo Hall. Wight explained that he was wearing his wrestling gear and boots underneath a fire suit, which was necessary due to the high-test gasoline used in the monster trucks. However, he mentioned that his pant legs were not secured to the bottom of his boots, leaving the entire under compartment of the monster truck open to the air.

The weather that night was extremely cold, with temperatures reaching minus 20 degrees. Both Wight and Hogan were freezing inside their suits. As they reached the battle on the wall, Wight fell off, dropping approximately 30 feet into an airbag. At that point in his career, falling into an airbag seemed cool to Wight. However, if someone were to propose the same stunt to him now, he would refuse due to safety concerns. He had never experienced falling into an airbag before and worried about the potential risk of landing on his head.

Despite the fall, Wight made a surprising return later in the show and defeated Hogan for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. This match also marked the debut of the infamous Yeti character.
