During a recent appearance on the “Sports Nightly” podcast, AEW wrestler Bryan Danielson commented on breaking his arm during his match against Kazuchika Okada at the AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door II pay-per-view event, what’s dangerous about having a steel rod in his bone, and more.
You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:
On his arm break recovery: “It’s doing okay. I think by continually wrestling on it, I’m slowing it down from healing 100%. Us older wrestlers like to say, we never anticipated being 100% ever again. So I think that’s kind of where I’m at. It’s fully functional. I can do pull-ups and I can do all these different sorts of things.”
On what’s dangerous about having a steel rod in his bone: “There’s nothing that’s going to happen to the bone because they put a rod in it with nine screws. The dangerous part, the doctor said, is actually where, if it were to break again, it’s easier to break where the rod ends, because the rod itself acts as a fulcrum that it could bend against. But then really, it’s like the nerve and muscle damage. Part of that is because I wrestled for 10 minutes with a broken arm and then part of it is just the work that we do.”

AEW wrestler Bryan Danielson recently opened up about his arm injury and the recovery process during an appearance on the “Sports Nightly” podcast. Danielson broke his arm during his match against Kazuchika Okada at the AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door II pay-per-view event. In this article, we will discuss Danielson’s comments on his recovery, the dangers of having a steel rod in his bone, and more.
Regarding his arm break recovery, Danielson mentioned that it is doing okay but healing slower due to his continuous wrestling. As an older wrestler, he acknowledged that he may never be 100% again. However, he assured fans that his arm is fully functional, allowing him to perform activities like pull-ups without any issues.
One of the concerns with having a steel rod in his bone is the potential for it to break again. Danielson explained that the rod itself acts as a fulcrum, making it easier for the bone to bend and potentially break where the rod ends. However, he emphasized that there is no immediate danger to the bone itself since it is secured with nine screws. The real concern lies in nerve and muscle damage, which can be exacerbated by wrestling with a broken arm for an extended period.
During the podcast, Danielson also discussed the work that wrestlers do and how it can contribute to further damage. The physical nature of professional wrestling puts a significant strain on the body, and injuries are not uncommon. Despite the risks, wrestlers like Danielson continue to push through and entertain fans.
To provide further insight into his experience, Danielson shared a link to a full interview on YouTube titled “Full Bryan Danielson Interview with Sports Nightly.” In this interview, fans can hear directly from Danielson about his arm injury and recovery journey.
