AEW’s Swerve Strickland would love to see the All-Elite promotion go head-to-head with WWE again, despite the result of this week’s Tuesday Night War.
This past Tuesday saw AEW Dynamite & WWE NXT go head-to-head in the battle for viewers as Dynamite had been booted from its usual Wednesday spot.
Speaking with “DAZN” Strickland said he’d love to see more direct competition, believing it is good for the wrestling business and keeps shows sharp. He added,
“I want them to make [more commotion about] it. It’s two rival teams going at it… There’s a lot of intrigue on Adam Copeland … There’s a lot of intrigue about me.”
Strickland faced Bryan Danielson on AEW Dynamite: Title Tuesday. The Blackpool Combat Club member won their match, earning himself a TNT title shot for this week’s Collision.
While Strickland hopes to see more competition, Dynamite was crushed by NXT this week, with the gold brand earning 921,000 viewers to Dynamite’s 609,000.
WWE NXT was the third highest-viewed episode since the gold brand came to the USA Network in 2019. In contrast, Dynamite saw its lowest viewership since October 2021.

AEW wrestler Swerve Strickland recently expressed his desire to see his promotion go head-to-head with WWE once again, despite the outcome of their recent Tuesday Night War. This past Tuesday, AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT competed for viewership, as Dynamite was temporarily moved from its usual Wednesday slot.
In an interview with “DAZN,” Strickland emphasized the importance of direct competition in the wrestling business, stating that it keeps shows sharp and generates intrigue among fans. He specifically mentioned the interest surrounding Adam Copeland (also known as Edge) and himself, highlighting the potential for exciting matchups and storylines.
During the Tuesday Night War, Strickland faced Bryan Danielson on AEW Dynamite: Title Tuesday. Although Strickland emerged victorious, earning a TNT title shot for the following week’s Collision episode, NXT dominated in terms of viewership. WWE NXT garnered 921,000 viewers, while Dynamite trailed behind with 609,000 viewers. This marked the lowest viewership for Dynamite since October 2021.
It is worth noting that WWE NXT’s episode was the third highest-viewed since the brand debuted on the USA Network in 2019. Despite this setback, Strickland remains optimistic about the potential for more competition between AEW and WWE.
The desire for competition between these two major wrestling promotions is not new. In the past, WWE and WCW engaged in a fierce rivalry known as the Monday Night Wars, which captivated fans and led to some of the most memorable moments in wrestling history. The competition pushed both companies to innovate and deliver compelling content, ultimately benefiting the wrestling industry as a whole.
While it remains to be seen if AEW and WWE will engage in a full-fledged rivalry like the Monday Night Wars, Strickland’s enthusiasm reflects the ongoing desire for healthy competition within the wrestling community. As fans eagerly await future matchups and storylines, the hope is that this competition will continue to drive the industry forward, providing fans with exciting and memorable moments.
