Rhea Ripley On How She Fuels Her Toughness, Creating Her Unique Look
Rhea Ripley was the special guest on Lilian Garcia’s Chasing Glory and the NXT UK star tells how she developed her unique look and one of the reasons was because she was so overheated before a show.
“I decided to wet my hair beforehand because it was just too hot because I was actually dying backstage and then I went out there, wrestled, came back I was like, ‘That was the best thing I ever done.’ So now I just do it from now on.”
Even when she’s not in front of the camera she was able to cut her own swath as far as dress code goes.
“It’s like even when we have to dress up and stuff, like business casual. I’m like, ‘Guys, I don’t do business casual.’ Like, if I can wear a leather jacket with studs and chains on it, that’s my business casual. I don’t even want to wear heels!
“It’s good cause now that I’ve shown them exactly who I am and the fans know who I am, the fans know pretty much, I get away with it.”
Ripley now lives in Orlando because of her NXT status, which means she’s two hours away from the beach, which makes her miss her home country of Australia.
“Australia is so, so lovely. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice here too, I’m not trying to say anything but like I used to live eight houses from the beach and it was amazing. As much as a rocker girl that I am I do love the beach. Like I hated it when I was little and now I want the beach back.”
Although she’s out in the limelight for a good part of her life, Ripley does enjoy her “me time” with herself and with her partner. And even after she hangs up the boots someday, Rhea has some plans for the future.
“I was always a social person, but at the same time like me time is a big thing or like me and my partner time, like I like to spend a lot of time with him just because he makes me happy and I make him happy so hopefully one day when I retire I go back to LA…start a little life there.”
Rhea went on to describe how she is very much a rocker girl and shares wild story of her fly kicking a large guy in a mosh pit and Garcia asks her where Ripley thinks she gets her tough attitude from.
“I don’t know really, I think if I really I have to put something, it’d be like probably the music I listen to cause I love like the heavy metal and the rock and all that stuff and it really does get me fired up. That’s why I like say that I have to have a really good theme song before I go out because I need that to like get into that mentality of ‘I’m gonna kill someone! Let’s go!’
