Backstage Reaction To AEW’s Banned Moves List
– ADVERTISMENT –

As we previously reported here on eWn, AEW has prepared a list of banned moves including an additional list that requires prior approval by medical staff and trainers.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter has now revealed details on the backstage reaction to the news, with most not treating the matter as anything significant.

AEW President Tony Khan stated during a recent press conference that most of the rules listed were simply informal policies that were yet to be put down on paper.

Many talents agreed with Khan’s direction in hopes that it will not change the AEW product.

A certain wrestler noted that the health and safety rules have been in place since Chris Nowinski addressed the talent during the nascent stages of the company. The moves have been banned for years, and they were just finally written down on paper pending enforcement.

One source suggested that the belief is that there will be fewer repeated spots, something AEW has been working towards in recent weeks.

For instance, at Double Or Nothing 2023 no one else besides The Elite and The Blackpool Combat Club were allowed to bleed blading was saved for Anarchy In The Arena.

A ‘major star’ said, “The new rules have great intentions but it remains to be seen how well they work. I’d say for the most part, no big move, highflying, driver , or other otherwise has led to any injuries on the roster. The vast majority have been fluke accidents that could have happened to anyone. Avoiding repeat spots and getting permission for blood or hardcore items/spots are the big ones that need to be enforced so we’ll see how it turns out.”

Khan previously noted that the rules are “fluid”, and whether or not they are enforced could depend on the individual asking. Khan further said that although he prefers to push boundaries, he won’t take any risks when it comes to safety.
