Opening up AEWxNJPW: Forbidden Door with the AEW World Championship match was the right call, according to WWE/Impact Hall of Famer Bully Ray.
Last weekend’s event in Toronto opened with MJF retaining his title against Hiroshi Tanahashi after teasing no-showing the event in the weeks prior.
During “Busted Open Radio,” Bully suggested that the main event between Bryan Danielson and Kazuchika Okada made sense, and the opener was the right call. He said,
“I don’t think they had a choice [in regards to Danielson and Okada headlining.] I think they started the right way.”
When Bully Ray asked what would have happened if MJF-Tanahashi had opened the show, Mark Henry said that the exhausted fans would have left the show early.
Dave LaGreca echoed the sentiment, suggesting that the ending of the show would have been a “downer” with MJF retaining.
On the show, Bully also praised the match between Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega, calling it a match he would watch again and again.
