Trish Stratus was recently a special guest on Busted Open Radio, where she discussed teaming up with Lita and Becky Lynch to face Bayley, Dakota Kai & IYO SKY at WrestleMania 39.
Discussing the unique dynamic of the match as well as the opportunity of sharing the ring with younger female talents and watching them closely, the WWE Hall of Famer said:
“What a unique dynamic, right? (Stratus said about the six-woman tag at WrestleMania 39) … Me and Lita being the past and then the present being Bayley and Becky (Lynch) and then IYO (SKY) and Dakota (Kai) being the future, right? So what a neat thing for the fans to be able to see… Man, I sat back and I was in awe of watching them work. I was just like, I love it, I love going back. I remember going back for the Royal Rumble and I was watching people work and I’m getting goosebumps thinking about it because it’s really interesting to see how people — how the brain works and how they put things together, you know? Was that fun Mickie (James)? Kind of seeing how the younger minds so to speak. It was impressive to watch them. I was in awe on the apron watching the match unfold and then for me, I just do what I do.”
Trish also shared that stepping back into the ring today, she often has feelings of self-doubt, but performing in front of the fans, especially over 80,000 people at WrestleMania, makes her feel right at home. She said,
“Like I said, I wanna do better than I did last time, right? So I do think people forgot (how good I am). Maybe I did too. Every time I go out there, I’m like, ‘Can I still do this? I don’t know,’ and I had a few obstacles… The callback to the outfit, that was super fun to do that and it was amazing. Honestly, surreal always but also, it just feels at home… I felt good, it feels like home to be on a stage in front of 80,000 people.”
Stratus also revealed that she was a little apprehensive prior to the match since she hadn’t had much time to prepare but was happy with how it all turned out in the end.
“But yeah, I was just like, ugh, I haven’t put in the work that I normally… I’m an over doer, I over-put in and Mickie knows this about me, I’m just details… So, I knew I didn’t have that much time that I would have wanted to put in but I was still happy with how it all came out and I was pleased and then it was just this automatic energy that happens, we all know when you return, when you walk through the curtain. It’s like, oh, here we are. We’re at home.”
With Trish Stratus recently having turned heel on Becky Lynch, how their marquee feud develops remains to be seen. With Lita being the variable in the equation, she is also expected to get involved in the coming weeks.
