Indi Hartwell defeated Roxanne Perez, Zoey Stark, Gigi Dolin, Lyra Valkyria, and Tiffany Stratton in a Ladder Match to win the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT Stand & Deliver.
Speaking recently on the Busted Open Radio podcast, Hartwell reflected on her gradual career progression in NXT and offered her perspective on the tenacity required in order to reach where she is today. She also discussed some future goals and the possibility of appearing on the main roster.
You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:
On her own analysis of her potential for victory beforehand: “It’s okay because I think I should apologize to myself because I surprised myself as well. I wasn’t even my own pick.”
On the obstacles she faced during her work with NXT: “I’ve gone from being in a group with these amazing people, I was kind of abandoned by these amazing people. Had to find my feet on my own, and it wasn’t always successful … I just kept going. And now I realize that all that stuff is paying off.”
On the philosophy that eventually paid off: “I don’t think I could’ve written it any differently. Maybe months ago or a year ago I was hoping things were different, but I just trusted the journey and the process.”
On the speed of her progression with NXT: “I believe in slow and steady because that’s what I’ve been through. I thought to myself, if I get it all at once, where do I go from there? I’m still pretty young in this business. I’ve been wrestling for seven years, but that’s nothing compared to some people. I’m all about the slow and steady. I know it’s a marathon and not a sprint. A lot of my coaches tell me that. I just try to keep that in mind.”
On if she’s interested in appearing on other brands eventually: “Definitely. NXT Champions have appeared on Raw and SmackDown in the past, so I’m looking forward to doing that too.”
