Madusa Says Pro-Wrestling Prepared Her For The World Of Monster Trucks

A career in the male-dominated world of professional wrestling helped prepare Alundra Blayze for the world of monster trucks, according to the WWE Hall of Famer.

After working for the WWF and later WCW, Blayze retired from wrestling in 2000 and would begin competing in freestyle monster truck competitions in 2001.

With her truck Madusa (her WCW name) Blayze has captured multiple championships in the sport, including winning the 2005 Monster Jam World Finals for the Racing Championship.

Speaking on The Sessions, Blayze explained how fighting for opportunities in the world of wrestling prepared her for life behind the wheel.

“Wrestling seasoned me for what I needed to do when I was ready to step into monster trucks. I was really gung-ho and excited to do that because I knew exactly what to do. I knew exactly what I was up against. I knew how to rattle the cage per se. I knew how men thought, I knew how they ate. I knew everything about them. I knew how they worked and so the manipulation that they played, I had a counter-move to that.

“When they put me up on the scene, they weren’t ready. And especially when I won two championships in the Monster Jam world finals, the blowback was [extreme.] Especially coming from executives, it was ‘now what are we going to do? A woman won.’ That’s exactly what one of them said. And I was like ‘are you kidding me?’”

After being blacklisted for 20 years after throwing the WWF Women’s Championship in the trash on WCW Monday Nitro (an Eric Bischoff call,) Blayze was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2015.
