All hail Queen Vega.
Following her triumph in the WWE Queen’s Crown Tournament, Zelina Vega is kicking off a new chapter of her career, and it’s set to begin this week on WWE RAW. Vega, among several other stars, was drafted to the red brand, and the October 25 episode will be the first edition of the show with these fresh rosters.
In an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Vega reflected on her remarkable win at WWE Crown Jewel and shared the special words of encouragement she got from Vince McMahon himself.
“Vince walked up to me after the match in the back and said, ‘You walked in here queen, and now it’s official,’” Vega said. “I almost lost it.”
Vega also described the meaningful finish to her bout with Doudrop; she explained that pinning her opponent with the Code Red was her way of paying tribute to her cousin, Amazing Red, and putting an “exclamation point” on the difficult journey she took to reach this new high.
“That Code Red wasn’t just a move for the match,” Vega said. “And it wasn’t just about my journey in WWE. This is my journey in life, and up to this point, it is the greatest moment of my career. That Code Red wasn’t just a wrestling move; it was an exclamation point.
“It was me representing my family. That’s my cousin’s move. Amazing Red deserves so much credit for what he’s done, so that was for him. That was for my dad, too. And that was for me, to solidify my place and show that I belong here.”
Moving forward, Vega made it clear that WWE Crown Jewel was just the beginning of her breakout moment, as she’s determined to show that she truly is a star.
“This is finally my time to show out to everyone who I am,” Vega said. “I’m not in anyone’s shadow. This is my time to show why I am a star.”
WWE’s new queen emphasized this thought process by stating that her time is now.
“It’s been a hell of a journey, and I’m looking forward to continuing my story as Queen Zelina,” said Vega. “Every time I step into the ring, I feel like I have to prove myself. I take this opportunity in WWE very seriously. This is my time, and it starts now.”
