Rush defeated Reed at MLW Kings of Colosseum in January to win the title. He had defended the title against Brian Pillman Jr. and Laredo Kid.

Established in 2018, the MLW World Middleweight Championship has a notable lineage. MJF was the inaugural champion, and Teddy Hart held the title for 330 days.
