Following the news that Major League Wrestling has signed a new television deal with VICE TV, many fans have been eager to know more about the move.
A new report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider offers several details about this development. The move will reportedly take place in May, and MLW plans to use footage from their library to coincide with the season premiere of “Dark Side of the Ring.” Plus, MLW is expected to function as the lead-in to the popular series.
Johnson also notes that MLW’s recently reported negotiations with Discovery are still ongoing, even after the completion of the VICE TV deal. Similarly, MLW’s agreements with DAZN and BeIn Sport are still active, as the company intends to land on as many platforms as possible.
On a different note, Johnson reports that MLW plans to resume its live event schedule this July. Like other companies, MLW has been taping in empty arenas, but this trend could soon come to an end.
“If everything works out as planned, PWInsider.com is told MLW will return to taping TV in front of fans this Jul,” Johnson wrote. “That material would then begin airing as soon as possible on ViceTV. The belief the shows would be taped and not broadcast live, but MLW has done live TV in the past on BeIn Sport and could easily stage that again if necessary.”
In other MLW news, the company’s CEO, Court Bauer appeared on Busted Open, where he discussed the company’s recent news. He also shared his perspective on the potential plans for an MLW spin-off series.
“We have at least two bids on a second show, and it’s a project that we’ve been looking at,” said Bauer. “And what we see is an opportunity to kind of scale up our roster, give more opportunities for our guys to work, put more eyes on our product, but do it a little bit differently.
“Will this be a brand split or something else? It’s gonna be a little bit of something else. But right now we’re in a great spot…. I’m the only free agent in the game. AEW [is] tied up with WarnerMedia, AXS owns IMPACT, I’m in a great position.
“We have other shows we can create, other opportunities we can develop and explore with networks and streamers. It’s a gold rush moment in the content world.”
