Daniel Bryan: My Creative Role Has ‘Diminished,’ But I Would Put The Business In Big E’s Hands If I Could

Daniel Bryan has openly discussed how WWE WrestleMania 37 could be his final outing at the prestigious event, as he’s transitioning into a part-time schedule. Part of this change has included Bryan’s involvement with the creative side of WWE, and the former WWE Champion explained this role in a recent interview with Andreas Hale of Sporting News.

Bryan stated that the pandemic allowed him to contribute to WWE in a non-wrestling way by offering his input on storylines. He also shared that this role has decreased in recent months.

“How it started was I would just go in and contribute to things for my own stories,” said Bryan. “They liked my ideas and I think they liked that most of my ideas were not about getting myself over. It was always about making the show better. And then when the pandemic happened and my pregnant wife was literally due to deliver in a few weeks, I had to step back.

“They asked if I would like to participate in creative. My role isn’t that big, but they’d call and ask what I thought about certain stories. And now that role has diminished since before Elimination Chamber.”

Though he hasn’t had as much influence lately, Bryan named Big E as a wrestler he hopes to see take on a more prominent role.

“It’s hard, but that person would be Big E,” said Bryan. “He’s such a good talker, wrestler and so charismatic. He’s still in his early 30s, he looks the part, he can be funny or scary or everything in between. If I were in charge, he would have a bigger role.

“One of the things with wrestling is that you don’t know if somebody is going to succeed in the main event spot until you put them in the main event spot. You never know until they have that opportunity.”

Speaking of stars getting an opportunity, Bryan also looked back on his part in “KofiMania,” Kofi Kingston’s historic WWE Championship win at WWE WrestleMania 35. Bryan

“…We were all watching it unfold and everybody knew what the right decision was,” said Bryan. ” It wasn’t the original plan, but you knew the fans were going to like this way more. It was so cool being on the other side of it. There was another sense of joy in it. Kofi wins the championship and we all have this moment where we say how awesome it is.”

Bryan also reflected on how he was glad that he could be happy for Kingston without having to do the media tour that new champions typically do. Instead, the former WWE Champion described how he happily celebrated with his family and relaxed after the show.
