On Friday night, EC3 will finally get his long-awaited match with Jay Briscoe.
The two former world champions were scheduled to clash at Ring of Honor Final Battle this past December, but the match was postponed when EC3 tested positive for COVID-19.
The buzzworthy match will be featured on Ring of Honor’s 19th Anniversary pay-per-view, and before the bout, EC3 described why Briscoe is a fitting opponent for his first ROH pay-per-view in an interview with Scott Fishman of TV Insider.
“EC3 evolving into the ‘Essential Character’ started with the COVID era, so of course, I got COVID,” said EC3. ” I was fine thankfully, but it did delay this match
“I envy Jay Briscoe. He has found happiness being in Ring of Honor for his entire career. He has found happiness raising a family and running a landscaping business. He kicks ass and works hard and is a family man. Jay’s probably one of the best wrestlers I’ve ever seen. He’s the biggest dog in this park who is not the champion. I had to go to him to find a purpose in Ring of Honor.”
Like EC3 pointed out, whereas Briscoe has remained with Ring of Honor since the beginning of his career, EC3’s path was taken him all over the wrestling industry. After EC3 was released from WWE, he was one of the hottest free agents in the business, and he chose to sign with Ring of Honor. The former TNA World World Champion looked back on this decision and explained what drew him to his new home.
“ROH is really, top to bottom, one of the only tolerable wrestling products on television,” said EC3. ” In my negotiations, they provided me with the freedom to create. No amount of money can take away the happiness and pleasure I truly get from creating and controlling my narrative.”
Finally, EC3 shared his thoughts on some of ROH’s underrated competitors who could become breakout stars. Specifically, he named Dak Draper and Josh Woods as two wrestlers to look out for.
“A guy like Josh Woods, given his background [as an amateur wrestler],” said EC3. “He really trains like an athlete. Dak Draper reminds me of a young Derrick Bateman [EC3’s first character in WWE]. If there’s something that can unleash him, he can become the man.”
ROH 19th Anniversary Show is on Friday, March 26. The event will begin at 9 p.m. EST, with Hour One streaming at 8 p.m. on various platforms. More information is available here.
