Charlotte Flair agrees Ronda Rousey brings something special to WWE’s women’s division, but she wouldn’t exactly say they “need” her to return.
Flair took part in a media call to promote the 2021 Royal Rumble pay-per-view, where she and Asuka will defend the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship against Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax. During the call, ViBe’s Vicente Beltran asked about Ronda Rousey resuming her professional wrestling training and whether or not Charlotte felt like they needed “Rowdy” back on the roster. Flair put over Rousey’s talent and star power and said she sure adds a lot to their roster, but explained why she can’t really agree that they “need” her right now.
“Well, ‘need’ is a very strong word. Do I think Ronda adds to the division? 100% — but ‘need’? No. We have an incredible list of already established stars and ones that are on the rise. So, ‘need’ is a strong word, but do I think she brings a lot to the table? 100%.”
Rousey made sporadic appearances in WWE prior to signing a contract, but her in-ring career began after her surprise appearance at the 2018 Royal Rumble. Rousey’s debut match took place at WrestleMania 34, and she would go on to win the RAW Women’s Championship and hold it for a reign of 231 days. Her last match came at WrestleMania 35, a main event loss to Becky Lynch, but she recently resumed training for a wrestling comeback late last year.
