Kairi Sane‘s WWE run looks to be finished as of today’s television tapings.
PWInsider.com is reporting Sane’s final date with the company will be today’s WWE TV taping. Sane is said to be leaving on good terms with WWE as she got married earlier this year and is returning to live in Japan full-time.
It was noted that Sane will “remain part of WWE’s extended family” but we won’t be seeing her on WWE TV much longer as the episodes taped today mark her last of her current run.
Sane’s status had been in question for several weeks, starting when she was legitimately injured by Nia Jax at the May 26 RAW tapings when she was thrown into the ring steps. It was originally reported that Sane’s leave of absence had been planned for some time and WWE had known about it since at least May; she later returned for the July 6 episode of RAW.
Dave Meltzer reported that the original idea for Kairi Sane’s departure was to run a career-ending injury angle that ultimately would have seen Asuka face off with Sane’s attacker at SummerSlam for the RAW Women’s Championship. It was later speculated that this plan likely changed since Paul Heyman’s departure, and two unconfirmed names mentioned as the potential attacker were Charlotte Flair or Shayna Baszler.
Sane has been with WWE since March 2017; she won the Mae Young Classic that year and also had single reigns as NXT Women’s Champion and WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion.
