Since launching in 2019, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has seen extensive expansion, a topic that Orange Cassidy touched on while talking about the company’s evolution during a recent interaction with Mike Jones. Cassidy expounded on AEW’s impressive growth and the rich diversity of its formidable roster.
In Cassidy’s words, “It’s been a very long five years if that makes any sense. The early years of the company were even more challenging, as after just a few months, we had to go into a hiatus due to the pandemic. On returning, we experienced a sort of second awakening as we took to the road again, reviving the energy vibe.”
He further added, “The company has witnessed massive growth, to the extent that I am amazed how Tony [Khan] manages to accommodate so many outstanding wrestlers in the roster.”
Presently, a prominent figure in the wrestling scene, Chris Jericho, has proclaimed himself as the “King of New York.” Jericho has held onto this nickname ever since his victory in the ROH World Championship, notably during his feud with Matt Cardona.
During a recent stint on the “Gabby AF” podcast, Jericho unraveled the backstory to his new title. From the podcast, a couple key takeaways:
Discussing how the nickname came about, Jericho said, “With King of New York, when that was suggested to me, I instantly turned to Amazon to look up merchandise tied to New York. I thought, why not play along with this, like a clueless tourist who believes he is a hard-core New Yorker, even though he keeps doing things that a typical New Yorker wouldn’t.”
On the topic of managing the adverse feedback, his perspective was, “I look at the other side of the coin: it’s kind of a challenge; let’s make this as great as we possibly can. If the story is where it needs to go, it will take you there, and all you have to do is be smart enough to realize that and just go with it.”
