WWE legend JBL has recently shared his thoughts regarding a former WWE Superstar who he believes wasn’t effectively utilized by the company. In a recent episode of his podcast, “Something To Wrestle”, JBL talked about Marc Mero, a Superstar he thinks the company should have given more importance to.
JBL, speaking about Mero’s experience and credibility, pointed out, “I mean, here’s a guy with a legit resume. It’s hard to win the Golden Gloves Tournament. He was training with Ray Rinaldi, a great pro boxing trainer. He was intending to go pro in boxing, but a facial injury, particularly a nose injury, intervened and cut short his boxing career.”
It’s long been discussed in WWE circles that Mero was chiefly brought into the company because of his Johnny B. Badd character from WCW, only to find out later that they couldn’t employ the persona.
JBL also desired to highlight that Mero’s decline in the Brawl For All shoot-fight tournament didn’t do the bona fide tough guy any justice. He asserted, “I think the Brawl for All hurt him, too. To me, I think they really missed the mark with him.”
Mero had a stint with WWE from 1996 to 1999, during which he was crowned WWE Intercontinental Champion once and won the WCW Tag Team Championship three times. JBL aired his opinions on this matter in the following “Something To Wrestle” podcast episode.
