Wrestling pro, Oba Femi, has voiced out strong criticism about NXT Champion Trick Williams, whom he feels is doing a disservice to the world of professional wrestling.
Femi, who emerged as the champion of the Men’s Iron Survivor Challenge, is set to go head-to-head with Williams for the prestigious title at the much-anticipated NXT New Year’s Evil 2025 event next month.
During his recent appearance on the “Ringer Wrestling Show” podcast, Femi compared his sincere approach to wrestling with Williams’s theatrical persona. He expressed,
“The significance of this match must be considered. Who is the true dominant figure? Is it the professional wrestler or the sports entertainer? I believe people are downplaying this aspect. The representative of the brand determines the direction the brand takes.
“I perceive that it sort of diminishes the genuineness of our profession. I concur with Gunther that this is a sport. Even though people are striving to create their brand and achieve super-stardom, the essence of it all disintegrates when we lean too much on the glitz and glamour.”
Williams’s present title is his second stint as WWE NXT Champion, which he won back from Ethan Page in NXT’s premiere on The CW in October.
