In a recent episode of his podcast titled, “Everybody’s Got A Pod”, WWE Hall of Famer Ted DiBiase Sr., shed light on his insights about the responsibilities of holding the title of a heel world champion, his aspirations of obtaining the World Champion title during the domain days, along with numerous other subjects.

For those who missed it, below are some notable excerpts from the podcast:

When asked about the role of a villainous world champion, DiBiase Sr. said: “A heel champion is a transitional champion. He’s going to have it for a short time, but then he’s going to drop it to the next babyface.”

While reminiscing about his personal ambition of being World Champion during the territory era, he explained: “If wrestling hadn’t transformed the way it did. As an NWA representaive, I would certainly want to be the world champion. Back in those days, the world champion was a villain in every territory, excluding the one he originated from.”

On discussing the significance of a villainous NWA World Champion for a good-guy, he stated: “You groom a fresh babyface, and that region got their hero. Their desire is to see their hero conquer the champion. That’s why the world champion was always a villain, except in his home region.”

When questioned how a promotion would dodge the situation of defeating the NWA Champion, he elucidated: “Almost all the time, it was a time-limit draw. However, the end of the match was so thrilling that people would exit thinking, ‘Our fighter could have won if he only had a few more minutes.’”
