Stevie Richards has expressed serious remorse regarding the notorious chair hit he gave to JBL, acknowledging that his behavior was well below the professional standards expected from a wrestler.
The unforgettable incident occurred during the 2005 ECW One Night Stand, when JBL unexpectedly assaulted the Blue Meanie toward the end of the show, severely injuring the ECW icon.
The incident was later dramatized for television, during which Richards dealt a resounding chair blow to JBL during a wrestling match.
Richards confessed his regret about the incident during a recent episode of his “The Stevie Richards Show” podcast. He stated,
“Every single day that this comes up, I feel bad about it. It’s not what we get in the business to do.”
Richards unintentionally caught JBL with the edge of the chair, slicing open his scalp. His original intention for JBL was to receive the hit while on his knees.
The wrestling legend further noted the tense atmosphere backstage after the chair impact and his subsequent profuse apologies to JBL. He mentioned,
“The backstage area was empty. Only ‘Taker was there. He told me, ‘Understand that our roster is lean enough as it is. We need all the guys we can right now. And now one more guy’s out because of your actions.’
“I shadowed him like a worried kid to the medic, and stayed there while they sealed his wounds. Regardless of his actions towards Meanie, he deserved an apology. … I was entirely in the wrong for what happened.”
