In a recent episode of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, ECW icon Tommy Dreamer shared his thoughts on flawed creative approaches in wrestling and the potential risks they pose to wrestling promotions. He drew on examples from his own experiences in TNA Wrestling and offered a comparative analysis with AEW.
Below are some key points from the podcast:
Dreamer expressed that he has participated in some questionable creative wrestling angles. He said, “I have been part of some genuinely terrible creative, Dave [LaGreca]. I have experienced dysfunctional scenarios – I’m not indicating this is about AEW – I’ve been embroiled in plenty of dire situations. Looking at these on paper, I often thought, ‘This is genuinely dreadful’. However, after watching the performances of the male and female wrestlers in the arena, I noticed the wrestling fans had absolutely no issues with what they witnessed.”
He also discussed how negative creative decisions negatively affected TNA Wrestling in the past. He underscored, “I’ve also seen some really outstanding shows, but a few misguided choices cost TNA dearly, especially when they opted not to confer the title on Bobby Roode. That decision was essentially the final blow for TNA, leading fans to distance themselves out of frustration. To regain that trust, it took TNA considerable time. I don’t believe AEW is at that point yet — albeit, it’s a good sign, optimism remains.”
